Background

Khmer Akphiwat Khmer Organization (KAKO) is a local non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization formed by former staff of Taipei Overseas Peace Service (TOPS), a Taiwanese NGO, when TOPS finished its mission in Cambodia.

KAKO is official registered at the Ministry of Interior on 26 November 2001, at Cambodia Development Council on 30 April 2004. On 22 November 2007, KAKO entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport.

KAKO dedicates itself to community development work through Education, with the final aim of illiteracy reduction and poverty alleviation.

Our Team

  • KAKO’s program director

    He was a Thai, he used to work as a teacher in Thailand for several years (primary school, high school and Non-Formal Education Department). After graduated the Master degree in adult education, he also had resigned from the government official and work with the United Nation Border Relief Operation (UNBRO) in the Cambodian refugee’s camps around Cambodia-Thai border during 1988-1991 and with the UNICEF Cambodia in 1991-1999.

  • KAKO’s director

    She was a Cambodian; She graduated in grade 9 (education system before Khmer Rouge regime). In 1979, she was a primary school teacher. From 1983-1986 she got a scholarship to study in the Soviet Union of Russia and came back to be a teacher for Russian language in a high school. Later she resigned and joined Concern worldwide for 4 years and 5 years with the UNDP in Pursat province.

  • Assistant of Community Preschool Project.

    Mr. Lao Sokunthy, 33 years old. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in the major of Information Technology and Master degree in Management. He had joined to work with KAKO in February 2018 till 2020 as a Village library project assistant and as a community preschool project assistant in 2021-present.

  • Assistant of Basic Health Project.

    Mr. Ann Ren, age 34 years old. He graduated in grade 12 and used to work with one NGO in Siem Reap as an English and Khmer teacher for the kindergarten class. Later, he resigned and worked with another NGO as a driver. He also joined KAKO in the year 2019 until now.

  • Assistant of Scholarship Project.

    Ms. Chhuo Ly, 26 years old. She used to be a scholarship student of Cambodia Rural Student Trust (NGO) in year 2016-2019. During that time, she was a volunteer of several works (English teacher, guest relationship, medical record and a seller). After she left that NGO, she worked as a reception in a dental clinic. At present, she studying at PUC university in the major of Business administration and joined with KAKO in year 2022.
